Blueberry's Rising Stars

It's the Rising Stars issue! Blueberry really knows how to pick 'em! Check out how some of our young editors and designers are already making their mark in the post-production industry. Summer is Blueberry season!

FEATURE: RISING STARS

The Futureheads and Blueberry Designer/Director Stephen Agnew

Designer/Director Stephen Agnew joined Blueberry in 2007. In early 2008 The Futureheads, a rapidly rising group in the indie music scene, jumped on Stephen's concept for their newest music video.

'Walking Backwards' was produced by Pulse Films and stars Futureheads band members in puppet form rocking out to the sweet sounds of the eponymous up-tempo tune. Stephen spent two weeks in what he describes as a "puppet dream world". After having directed the shoot, Stephen edited and crafted visual effects for the video in two days.

Each year Broadcast magazine turns a spotlight on UK's brightest young talent in their Hot Shots supplement. Last month Blueberry nominated Editor Ash Jenkins for the 2008 edition.

Ash recently worked as Editor on the Nick Broomfield feature, 'Battle For Haditha', alongside Stuart Gazzard. Ash has also just completed editing on the feature documentary 'Afghan Star' for More 4. Ash is an inspiring young filmmaker and truly deserving of his inclusion as a Broadcast Hot Shot.

'It's an inspiration to appreciate the level of creativity and craftsmanship available to our industry and spend time connecting with our next generation of broadcast editors and designers.' - David Hall, Design Consultant at Blueberry.

In June, Blueberry attended Ravensbourne College's Rave on Air and the Graphic Design and Animation Degree Show at RSA to connect with the skills and creativity of this year's editing, design and animation graduates.

Paul Stalker Consulting Hire Production Duo Phil Eastabrook and Jamie Riordan

Phil Eastabrook and Jamie Riordan tapped into their many skills to produce a series of Personal Development and Workforce Training Films for Paul Stalker Consulting. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Developing Skills in FCP and Color

WIDE Films is now offering Editors the opportunity to develop skills and learn new systems under the instruction of Taimur Khan.

As more and more production companies are switching to Apple's FCP systems, there has been an equivalent increase in the demand for skilled post-production talent to run the FCP editing system and to handle various workloads/flows from multiple HD formats. Production companies are looking for creativity and flexibility in their Editors and Colourists.

"Coaching for Creatives" by Peter Mock
What makes the difference between a talented creative and a professional creative?

Thomas Edison once said that the process of invention is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.

In Post-Production our work is made up of a combination of creativity and business acumen. While the creative impulse is fluid - difficult to define and, sometimes, manage - client relationships are very much based on TRUST: Trust in the creative skills of the individual and agency, trust in the abilities to interpret their vision, to provide solutions and to deliver work within a given time frame.

All those working in the creative industries know that it is not enough to have only artistic flair! We know that additional skills essentially make the difference between a talented creative and a successful professional creative.

What are these skills?

What makes a successful creative or creative manager?

The first step to becoming a more successful professional in the creative industries is to learn how to manage Responsibility...
