Julie brings stories to life with clarity, elegance, and deep respect for the craft.
An intuitive, BBC-trained editor with BAFTA and Grierson nominations and a rich portfolio of documentaries and dramas under her belt. She began her career in sound, joining the BBC in 1986 and working as a film editor for eight years. From 2000, she was a long-standing member of the Uppercut team, where she remained for 12 years, honing her craft of Film Editing.
Julie’s background in music and early life as a dancer continues to shape her editing style. The elements of dance; rhythm, flow, expression, lyricism, mingle and merge with that of editing leading to a seamless, fluid choreography of picture and sound.
She has collaborated with acclaimed directors including John Schlesinger, Jack Clayton, Roger Spottiswoode and Chris Terrill. And is comfortable working with or without a director in the room, Julie’s strengths lie in narrative, understanding the Director’s vision and translating that vision from script to rushes to screen. She brings confidence, creativity, and instinct to every project and is known for her calm and thoughtful approach.

This episode focuses on the dramatic final moments before the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, offering a poignant glimpse into the lives of Pompeii’s inhabitants as disaster struck.
Archaeologists uncover a wealthy villa, a bakery, and a laundry (known as a fullery), revealing chilling details about the residents’ last actions. Among the discoveries is a shrine containing remnants of food and animal bones—interpreted as desperate offerings to the gods in a bid for protection. Additionally, vivid charcoal graffiti depicting gladiators was found beneath a staircase, shedding light on the cultural milieu of the time
The Last Mountain
The compelling story of 30-yr-old climber Tom Ballard, who disappeared on one of the Himalayas most deadly mountains in February 2019. Tom was the son of mountaineer, Alison Hargreaves who perished on K2 in 1995. Mother and son, two of the greatest climbers of all time, died at almost the same age, in the same mountain range, both doing what they loved best. They now lie forever encased in the ice of the high Himalayas.
