Paul Bernays worked extensively on the US reversioning of this compelling four-part documentary series produced by Mindhouse Productions in association with Sky Studios and CNN Originals
On December 21, 1988, a bomb on Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, tragically killing all 259 on board and 11 people on the ground. It was the largest air terror attack before 9/11.
Weaving personal stories of grief and resolve from family members and Lockerbie residents with accounts from investigators, intelligence officers and key witnesses who have not spoken until now, this gripping and emotional series tracks the complex web of theories and the unprecedented trial that played out on the world stage.
“A masterclass in moving, urgent TV… a gripping detective story and a beautifully-made, sensitive portrait of grief.” ★★★★★ THE GUARDIAN
Paul Bernays shared some thoughts on editing the CNN Originals version of this powerful series which premiered in February 2025.
“The night before we started work reversioning the Lockerbie series, it won a BAFTA – so, no pressure then! Though our endeavour became much more than reversioning as we reinterpreted, reordered and enhanced the essence of the films, forging new clarity without sacrificing the extraordinary emotions. New filming, introducing fresh characters, scenes, stories and depth, which we worked in seamlessly. CNN accepted, in fact enthused, about the more resonant pacing we kept to.
Working alongside exemplary Exec Nancy Strang, Producer Barnaby Fry and Edit Director Tim Dunn, the stakes were very high to get this right. I take pride that we succeeded, reflected in Mindhouse and CNN’s accolade to credit myself and editing compadre Andreas Carnevali as main editor on each of the episodes we separately cut.”
