Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger
In Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger, Martin Scorsese shares his lifelong love affair with the films of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Drawing on a rich array of archive material, including their major works such as The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes, Scorsese explores the collaboration between the quintessentially English Powell and the Hungarian Pressburger and how their partnership had a major influence on his own body of work, including such classics as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.
Editor Margarida Cartaxo shares some highlights of working on this film…
“Made in England is a product of a huge collaboration between people in love with The Archers and their brilliant body of work. In truth, this nomination carries a lot of silent names and it should fall onto the entire team. We should all be celebrated. The project couldn’t have gotten to where it did if it wasn’t for the resilience, love and commitment from everyone.
More than the nomination itself, the biggest joy is to have played a part in telling this story. The Archers and their Filmography will survive the test of time regardless but I am so proud to have contributed to this wonderful homage that is Made in England through Martin Scorsese’s eyes. I feel so blessed and grateful.
I only wish I could have told the 18-year-old me, that in the future, I would get this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with the greatest names in Cinema. Especially, Thelma Schoonmaker, whom I always look up to and admire. I don’t think in my professional life, there will ever be a bigger highlight than that. It was the utmost privilege to have shared that experience and know that when we are all long gone, our credits will live in an important feature that celebrates a wonderful collaboration of artists and love for Cinema.”
